In All Things Give Thanks

This morning, while I had my breakfast, I scanned the Books section of The Globe and Mail, and read a review of a biography of Lucy Maud Montgomery, written by Jane Urquhart. It is part of a larger series, called Extraordinary Canadians. Yes, we do have a few extraordinary people in our heritage.

I was a reader of Montgomery's books; repeatedly. I loved, as millions of girls before me, the stories of Anne. I also loved Montgomery's book Jane of Lantern Hill and Emily of New Moon. A few years ago, when we were in Prince Edward Island, visiting the Anne house, I bought a book of Montgomery's own reflections, called The Alpine Path. She was a deeply introspective woman.

I am thankful for Anne of Green Gables and all of the other "Anne" books. The stories were and remain, wonderful, edifying stories that encourage and entertain. In a day and age when the fiction that is geared toward young girls is anything but, I am thankful that these books were written.

Don't forget to check out the other thankful thoughts at Rebecca's today, and maybe leave her a little note saying thanks for all the work she is doing this month with these posts! They have been a great blessing to many of us!
