It is quite serendipitous that Rebecca is having a month of thanks on her blog, because today marks something I think we can all be thankful for and that is the men and women who died in battle to preserve the freedom of our country.
Today is Remembrance Day here in Canada, and at 11:00 a.m. all over this country, there will be services commemorating this.
While I don't like the idea of war, i.e. men killing each other, I have to accept that it is part of life, and I am thankful for those who believed that preserving freedom was worth dying for. Our church is fortunate to have a few veterans in our midst. The presence of veterans from the two World Wars is getting fewer and fewer, as they pass away year by year. Young people don't have that visual reminder as much as I did as a young person.
Recently, there was a Canadian-made movie about Passchendale. It was released a couple of weekends ago. I am hoping to see this film, as that battle was one of the most profound efforts fought by Canadian soldiers.
