I'm thankful for meetings that go well.
Over a week ago, I shared some concerns I had regarding the "Thrive" conference our church participated in. I was very discouraged with it.
Well, our ladies ministries committee had a meeting last night, and I was so thankful to hear that I was not alone in my worries. I already knew of the concerns of two of the women there, and I was comforted in the fact that I respect both of these ladies, and know them to be biblically-minded women, so it wasn't just a matter of me being overly critical.
The general consensus was that we will not ever have "Thrive" in our church again. We were all pretty much in agreement with the fact that the whole even was not biblically centred and that much of what was said was "fluff." One of the committee members confided that after the event, one of the participants graciously said that perhaps the women of the church were beyond that kind of fluff. It's true.
One of the things that has really come about in our church this fall is the growth of women in the Word of God. There are currently four women's bible studies being offered. I am teaching the young mothers, my friend and her daughter are teaching a young woman-older woman bible study; there is an in-home bible study two mornings a month, and on thursday nights, during our kids' club, there is a single mothers bible study. Once women start immersing themselves in the Word of God, fluff such as what was offered at "Thrive" is not sufficient anymore.
So, I was very thankful that the meeting was a good one. I was seriously afraid that I was going to be a lone voice there. We're going to work on getting a live speaker. We do have one speaker in mind, but if anyone out there knows of a female speaker that would come to a little town like ours, I would like to know. We're not assured of the speaker who is our first choice, so maybe an alternate name would be good.
