I got a little not via e-mail tonight from a dear blogging friend. She bestowed upon me a Blogger Reflection Award. Here's what it represents:
The reason for the title is because this award should make you reflect on five bloggers who have been an encouragement, a source of love, impacted you in some way, and have been a Godly example to you. Five Bloggers who when you reflect on them you get a sense of pride and joy... of knowing them and being blessed by them. Now that I've been given this, I get to choose five bloggers to whom I wish to bestow this. So, here goes.
Carla at Reflections of the Times: I think I found Carla's link through Tim Challies' blog. When I saw that she was a homeschool mom and a Reformed Baptist type, I immediately took an interest. When I saw that she lived here in Ontario, I was even more convinced that I wanted to get to know her better. Carla makes me laugh, and she makes me think about things, and she inspires me to be a better Christian, mother, and wife. There are times when we know exactly what the other person is going to say before she says it. I admire Carla's tenacity and drive. She is one of the few women I know personally with whom I feel I can be myself. I'm sure there are a few others out there (probably from among the following four) who would be the same; I just haven't met them fact to face yet.
Christa Blakey is a young mother from California. I appreciate so much her devotion to the Lord and to her husband and young son. Despite being in the "younger" crowd, she has not given into the temptation to embrace worldly womanhood. Her desire to live bibically as a wife and mother is a great encouragement to me. She speaks well of her husband and she write with joy about being a new mother. She also shares her experiences with the teen girls at her church, which I'm always interested to hear about, because I work with teens too. I wish my daughter could have an older woman in her life (well, older to my daughter) to be a godly example of godly womanhod.
Libbie at Musing of an English Muffin once called me a "Cracking Lass." That was a real compliment to me, because it just sounds cool. I admire Libbie's sharp wit, keen observation and concise writing. She shares a lot of insights as to the culture and political climate of England, where she lives, and that is interesting to me, living in a Commonwealth country myself. Her openness and honesty about things is refreshing. She had a difficult pregnancy, and she did not fill the pages of her blog with complaints, but rather trusted in the Lord and asked for prayer. I'm not sure I could be that patient. She is in one of the most physically demanding phases of life, parenting young children, and she obviously takes great joy in it, and I love that about her.
Jen at Joy Thru Christ is a new blogging friend, and she is a cat lover, which makes me feel like we're kindred spirits. Jen, like Carla, is one of those women I think I could probably sit down with and have coffee (or another beverage if she preferred), and feel like we're old friends even though we'd just met. I know she doesn't want people to think that she only blogs about her cat, but I love it when she does. However, she doesn't just blog about her cat. She is a woman of the Word of God, and her insights are proof of that. She also reads good books, and you can see that on her sidebar. There is also a cute little button on the sidebar that testifies to the love she has for her husband.
And last, but not least, I have to mention a "Blogger Who Is Not a Blogger." I'm sure many people are blessed by the men folk at Team Pyro, and I am among them. However, it is actually Darlene Johnson who has been one of the biggest encouragements in my life. She isn't much older than I, but old enough that she has wisdom that I simply don't have, and she is willing to share it. Her advice is always biblical, and encouraging. I know that even when she is pressed for time, she stops in and reads and will comment when she has time. She has a busy life, but she always manages to make me feel like I'm not any trouble at all. I've met her, and she has the wonderful, precious gift of making people feel truly welcome. When a week goes by and I haven't "connected" with her via e-mail or a comment, I feel like something is missing. By the way, you can pray for her. She's been struggling with a respiratory infection these past weeks, and she's not 100% yet.
I'll leave the rules of participating, but if you don't want to, you don't have to. I just wanted to use this as an opportunity to encourage and thank some wonderful women in my midst.
