This isn't new

I'm sure quite a few of you read and enjoyed Phil Johnson's entry about the Fad-Driven church. (Sorry, Phil, I don't have the registered trademark logo beside that word; I'm in a hurry). While I enjoyed it, I was struck by two sad things.

First, I'm sad that there are clearly ways in which evangelicalism has some problems. I'm sad that we are so led around by the nose by popular culture and trends.

Secondly, I'm sad that Phil Johnson has to be the one telling us about this problem. Not that I don't like him; actually, I've made my peace with him. But why do we need to be told this? Can't we see it ourselves? Are we like that frog in the water that doesn't realize he's being cooked alive?

Two years ago, I read a book called No Place For Truth or Whatever Happened to Evangelical Theology? by David F. Wells. It was a revelation, because it articulated for me what the dis-ease in my mind was. He talks about many things that Phil touches on in his recent post. This book was published in 1993. While I enjoyed Phil's entry very much, it really isn't a new revelation. I am glad, however, that he's talking about it.

In other news: house selling is moving at a fast pace. We have two buyers duking it out for our house, and we will in all likelihood be moving in September. Praise God! Thanks for the prayers, especially John who has assured me of his on more than one occasion.

Jo was sharing her preferences for what she would like to see others blogs about. She mentioned me (isn't she sweet? I just love Jo, and I would like to have a holiday in her home state so I could meet her) and wanted to know about having a daughter who is almost grown, and she asked about courtship. In the next couple of days, I'm going to share my feelings about courtship. There, you've been warned.

It's raining here. Real rain. The kind that comes straight down. What a relief.
