The first injunction we are given in the Lord’s Prayer is to hallow God’s name. When we pray, we should always begin with telling praise. This is from the Common Book of Prayer. We don’t use this in my church, but I do use it in my personal devotions, as I’m sure many others do. I’ve actually heard this set to music by John Michael Talbot, on a CD called Cave of the Heart. On this CD, Talbot has guest musicians, Michael Card singing in the background, and Phil Keaggy showing off his masterful guitar playing.
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace to his people on earth.
Lord, God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks
we praise you for your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sing of the world:
have mercy on us,
you are seated at the right of the Father:
receive our prayer.
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
